🛡️ The Five-House System: Harmony in Rhythm & Expression
In a unique tradition inspired by the classical arts and Indian cultural heritage, students of PM SHRI Kendriya Vidyalaya AFS Sulur are grouped into Five Houses representing the foundational tenets of music, rhythm, expression, and discipline:
⚪ Layam House (White)
Significance: Rhythm, Tempo, Harmony & Purity
Represents balance, synchronization, and inner peace. Layam cadets lead by example in drill coordination, school discipline, and harmonious teamwork.
🔴 Ragam House (Red)
Significance: Melody, Passion & Expressiveness
Represents eloquence, emotional vitality, and vocal arts. Cadets of Ragam excel in parliamentary debate, creative writing, elocution, and spirited leadership.
🔵 Thalam House (Blue)
Significance: Beat, Measure, Precision & Timekeeping
Represents structure, athletic timing, and unwavering discipline. Thalam house consistently shines in track and field athletics, sports tournaments, and march-past precision.
🟢 Bhavam House (Green)
Significance: Emotion, Empathy, Nature & Visual Arts
Represents creativity, dramatic expression, and environmental stewardship. Bhavam members lead the Eco-club, stage plays, group folk dances, and cultural presentations.
🟡 Swaram House (Yellow)
Significance: Musical Note, Radiance, Clarity & Intellect
Represents wisdom, mathematical inquiry, and radiant energy. Swaram house leads in science exhibitions, academic Olympiads, inter-house quizzes, and technology clubs.
Throughout the academic session, the five houses compete across academics, morning assembly conduction, March Past, Annual Sports, and cultural festivals for the coveted Vidyalaya Overall Championship Trophy.
🎖️ The Student Council & Prefectorial Board
Democratic leadership, accountability, and peer representation are instilled through the Vidyalaya Student Council. Following annual elections, a solemn Investiture Ceremony is held where badges of office and house sashes are conferred by the Principal and the Chairman, VMC:
- Head Boy & Head Girl: The supreme student ambassadors representing the Vidyalaya at regional events and coordinating student council affairs.
- Sports Captains (Boys & Girls): Spearheading mass morning physical training, sports equipment management, and inter-school athletic contingents.
- House Captains & Vice-Captains (5 Houses): Leading the march-past contingents and organizing house teams for weekly CCA contests across Layam, Ragam, Thalam, Bhavam, and Swaram.
- Discipline & Cleanliness Prefects: Fostering campus decorum, Swachh Bharat cleanliness protocols, and eco-friendly conduct.
- Literary & Cultural Prefects: Leading assembly invocations, pledge recitations, daily news reading in English, Hindi, and Sanskrit, and library club drives.
